Akhila & the Alchemists is an audacious experiment in music making across shores. Based jointly in Chennai (Tamilnadu, India) and Columbus (Ohio, United States), the free-floating collective is the brainchild of Akhila Ramnarayan (lyrics, vocals) who brought together Doug Carraway (guitars, bass, drums), Vedanth Bharadwaj (guitars), Praveen Sparsh (percussion), Shreya Devnath (violin), and Paul Jacob (bass) for their first full-length album together, Woe Begone (2021).
The band's subsequent musical efforts are primarily helmed by Ramnarayan and Carraway with creative support and production inputs from Bharadwaj, the three together forming the musical core of the project from the start.
MUSIC
Think a mostly curious, occasionally world-weary, voyager navigating life in the anthropocene, and you have Woe Begone, the debut indie rock album by Akhila & the Alchemists. A remote collaboration by 6 musicians across 4 studios, 3 cities, and 2 continents that was 2.5 years in the making, Woe Begone ripples throughout with musical, literary, artistic, philosophical, and mythic resonances that span cultures and centuries.
